Case Study: Restoring Compliance Through Major Stormwater Pipe & Riser Repair in Montgomery County
In this blog, we highlight a large compliance repair project that required an expansive skill-set to complete. The primary focus of the project was a major stormwater riser and pipe repair to replace a failing outlet pipe within the stormwater retention pond. The work included clearing of the pond, excavating, regrading the site to original condition, replacement of the outlet pipe and riser, rebuilding the inlet and outlet, sinkhole repair, and final stabilization.
Our stormwater corrective team took the following steps to correct the multitude of issues in the stormwater device:
Initial Clearing: The project began with meticulous clearing of the site, including mowing the top and side of the dam, and removing established trees, brush, and debris
Silt Fence Installation: To prevent sediment runoff during construction, silt fences were installed around the site, with an additional rock check dam at the outlet
Riser and Pipe Installation: The old pipe and riser were carefully removed, and a stable foundation was constructed for the new riser. The new stormwater pipe was set with compactable fill, ensuring a secure and stable system
Outlet Dissipator: An outlet dissipator pad, armored with non-woven fabric and riprap, was installed to ensure effective and controlled runoff discharge, minimizing erosion
Inlet Dissipator: The inlet dissipator pad was rebuilt and armored to manage incoming water flow and prevent future issues
Inlet Sinkhole Repair: A dangerous sinkhole caused by a pipe separation was corrected by exposing the separation, lifting the sunken pipe, and applying a concrete collar for stability
Outlet Anti-Seep Collar: An outlet anti-seep collar was installed to enhance the integrity of the stormwater system
Final Grading and Stabilization: The project concluded with meticulous grading, seed application, and matting to promote vegetation growth, stabilize the site, and enhance aesthetics
The stormwater system is now compliant and again functioning as designed. Dragonfly’s specialized routine maintenance programs include system component inspection with every visit, and a detailed photo inspection report follows every Dragonfly service. This allows us to ensure the system continues to function as designed and alerts us, and owners, to any potential issues before they worsen and repairs become more costly.
