Florida Erosion Control and Shoreline Revitalization
Developing community completes Florida erosion control and shoreline revitalization to protect homes.
Country Walk in Wesley Chapel, Florida is an up and coming residential development. This community boasts over 150 acres of conservation lakes and wetlands. Many desirable homes overlook a beautiful waterscape. Unfortunately, several of the lakes suffer from shoreline erosion. Shoreline erosion leads to an unsafe, unhealthy, and non-compliant lake. If the shoreline is not restored, it will continue to erode and threaten nearby homes and properties. This is a concern for current residents, as well as for potential home-buyers. The community desired a low-impact, environmentally friendly, and long-lasting solution.
At Dragonfly Pond Works, we are Florida erosion control and shoreline revitalization specialists. We always strive to provide the most appropriate water beautification solutions. Following our assessment, we recommended our low-impact, highly robust shoreline restoration through pump dredging services. This method is environmentally friendly and long-lasting while also cost-effective. All of these factors were of importance to a growing community.
The above two photos show shoreline erosion at two of the Country Walk lakes we were contracted to restore. This shoreline will continue to erode if not restored properly. Our Florida erosion control measures will protect the shoreline from future erosion.
Florida Erosion Control and Shoreline Revitalization Process
Our experienced crew secures Geobags along the eroded shoreline. The Geobags are made of highly durable geotextile material and are the key component in this Florida erosion control solution. Sediment from the lake bottom is pumped directly into the bag by the pump dredging machine. The bag allows water to escape while keeping the sediment inside.
First, the bottom anchor bag, is filled with sediment by the pump dredge.
Next, an additional bag is stacked on top of the filled anchor bag and also filled.
The crew works together to ensure the Geobag is being filled to effectively correct the eroded shoreline.
Grading and Sod: Natural Shoreline
The filled anchor bag is left in place to protect against future erosion, this provides our Florida erosion control measures. The top bag is split open and the material is graded over the anchor bag to create a natural slope.
The crew then secures matting over top of the graded material to prevent any sediment from being washed away.
Once the sediment is graded and secured with matting, sod is placed over everything. The bottom anchor bag is no longer visible.
