Dragonfly Charlotte Stormwater Management Service Manager

Please tell us about your background.

I developed a deep appreciation for the outdoors at a very young age. This appreciation led me to pursue an outdoor and environmental related education and career path. After obtaining my Associates in Arts with a Wilderness Studies Degree from Colorado Mountain College, I began a variety of roles that have led to an extensive background in outdoor and environmental fields. Some of these roles include high adventure guide, kayak guide, sponsored snowboarder, snowboard instructor, sawyer, heavy machine operator, and constructing wetland, hiking, and mountain biking trails. For the last five years I’ve been focused on the stormwater management industry. I obtained my certification as an Erosion Prevention & Sediment Control Inspector while working for the town of Fort Mill, SC in stormwater maintenance and erosion control. I also have experience installing stormwater control measures. The common theme of the jobs I’ve pursued is helping others safely enjoy the outdoors while protecting the environment.

Why have you now chosen to focus on the stormwater industry?

I feel this is a fascinating industry with plenty of growth potential. Stormwater in my opinion is a forgotten necessity. In order for us to maintain growth and expansion, we need to take care of the environment along the way. We only have one planet and one opportunity to make a difference for the future. Dragonfly works hard to create and maintain stormwater systems that improve the environment for local communities and areas far downstream. I’m excited to be part of that mission, especially in the rapidly growing Charlotte area.

Routine stormwater maintenance keeps stormwater control measures healthy and compliant.

What are some of your goals within your role?

One of my main goals is to provide our clients with industry-leading solutions that help protect the environment at large and ensure healthy outdoor spaces for others to enjoy long into the future. I plan to grow and learn as much as possible in order to accomplish this goal and best meet the unique needs of each client. I’m also focused on never losing sight on how everyone in the company contributes to success. All of us in the company make the company successful, not just an individual.

Tell us about your hopes for the stormwater industry over the next five years?

In the next 5 years I would like to see more sites in compliance with stormwater ordinances. Pollution is nothing new to people, but it is becoming much more apparent in our daily lives. Most people don't realize the benefit that retention ponds and SCM’s can have in a community. For example, someone washing their car or walking their dog and not picking up the waste. A rain event happens and all those household chemicals or pet waste is washed down the storm drain and directly into the nearby lake or pond. You and your family decide to have a beach day and swim in that very lake or pond. Not to mention the insects, plants, good bacteria and animals that are affected by the pollution and sediment. This prevents them from keeping waterways clean and healthy. We are here to help ensure ponds and SCM’s are working properly to prevent this pollution from reaching local bodies of water. By doing so we can do our part in helping the environment one basin at a time!
